Zwei Minuten Stillstand, 2013

When the siren sounds on Yom Hashoah, Israel’s National Holo- caust Remembrance Day, everyone stands in silence. The whole country grinds to a halt. This act of commemoration inspired Yael Bartana’s contribution to the 2013 Impulse Theater Festival in Cologne. The performance encouraged the public to become aware of history and their own present roles, and then to develop a collective, inclusive ritual here in Germany.
